Kissinger seems almost fatalistic in the epilogue about the propensity of both countries use their military for diplomatic messaging, but then completely misunderstand each others intent with tragic consequences. My knowledge of China is woefully sketchy, but it's clear that they've positioned themselves to be a super power.
