So much of this controversy is arguing about what is going on inside his head. What is his motivation? Is he primarily motivated to tell the truth about the Iraq he sees? Or is he motivated to tell stories that will get him published? Is he embellishing for the sake of making his writing more interesting? Or faithfully reporting events on the ground? Even questions about why he enlisted, his patriotism, his feelings for his fellow soldiers and unit seem relevant. <BR/><BR/>We won't know any of these things, until and unless he speaks for himself, and the army lets him do it.
